I have not been so brave as to be on the bank during the bad weather. Fishing for the hardy only right now! Hats off to the chap I spoke to on the Stour (sturmister Newton). Days without a pike but still fishing on. Hope he bagged a monster after I left him to it.
He had the right gear on and said he felt snug, not cold at all. It was -6 degrees! (note: new products to source - clothing) we will get on to it.
Cheers
Steve.

Kamasan Tackle
We have recently started to stock Kamasan peacock waggler floats and more recently B983 kamasan hooks. So I thought I should put them to the test on a short but memorable Tench fishing session.
After raking and pre baiting and all that lark I set up three rods each with a Kamasan float. 1 thick insert and two thick straights and all with size 12 Kamasan B983 hooks. The chosen hook bait was sweetcorn and this hook is wide gape (perfect).
The floats were set with less than the float weight in each case then overweighted by a swan shot 6 - 8 inches from the hook. So good to go with regestering lift bites. The floats were great, set slightly proud I was able to notice line bites and get ready for action.
The real stars were the B983 hooks, good for the sweetcorn and would work equally well with bread or soft hooking pellets having the wide gape. The eye of this hook seemed bigger that others used in a size 12 which helped as on this occasion I went straight through with 10lb Sakuma Braid. All nice but, the real test was when a 7lb 10oz Tench (PB) bolted into the lillies leaving me holding a well bent rod and saying “This one’s not coming out”. Much pressure was applied and she finally came out and was landed after a couple of bolts and splashes. This hook stood up to it, cheers Kamasan.

Special thanks goes to my son who cut my head off of this keepsake shot…
Oh well, I have started one here…
Braid is different to nylon in so much as it will pull through on the hook tie if you don’t tie the right knot. So those half blood knots will not stay strong, they will slip with braid.
What to do!!!!
Granny knot… nah, just tuck your half blood knot. after you have put the line through the first twist above the eye of the hook put it back through the loop. You know what I maen but here is a diagram!

Tucked Half Blood Knot
ps. this may also apply to amnesia line
If you have any tips on hook tying with briad, cool rigs and knots… Email me and I will pass it on!
Cheers, fish on…
Now if you are like me and every now and again like to travel light, wander around and do a bit of stalking as a relief from carting a barrow load of gear to the waters edge and setting up camp. Well there some bits and pieces that I can recommend (blatant sales pitch coming up). Fishing bags, shoulder strap style big enough for those essentials. Ditty boxes to keep your ready to hand shot and hooks in and maybe a smaller bait box for just a couple of pints of maggots… (blatant sales pitch over) If you are like me with an ever increasing bundle of gear that you cart around, do try and fish light handed once and a while, if anything it brings the joy of fishing back to your heart!
OK so there are a lot re-runs, but there has always been a low number of fishing programmes about. Discovery Shed have designated Friday nights along with the early daytime /weekend programmes, it’s great. And you can still get fishing on Discovery real time, if you are lucky enough to have sky sports tight lines with Keith Arthurs is always a good watch. So what’s my point in adding this to the blog… Well just got a bit excited about picking up a few Fly fishing tips (Only been fly fishing a few times) and watching a “A Passion for Angling” (Oldie but goodie) I remembered why I love this sport so much. So if you can’t get out fishing why not take 5 and look for some fishing on the box.

A small family run business based in Poole. We are in our first year and learning a lot about the tackle trade but I hope with 30 + years of fishing experience I can help QUICKSTRIKE to become a great website for anglers looking for good deals on quality tackle.
I’m gonna need some help so if this blog can be a way to discuss ideas and suggestions that that would be great.
Cheers,
Steve.
So here is the start of the QUICKSTRIKE blog, every body and thier dog has got one so here we are keeping up with the Jones’.
I am not sure how this is going to pan out but I reckon we should keep it reasonably topical.
Cheers, Steve.
